Cuddly Caterpillars (Babies Room) & Blossoming Butterflies (Nursery Room)

Our Babies and Nursery rooms offer nurturing, calm and safe places, where our friendly educators support parent choices and individual child needs. With constant reassurance and warm interactions, we guide them to explore the purpose built indoor and outdoor spaces, where they are involved in interactive and play based learning.

Parents are asked to provide the following items each day their child attend:

  • Water bottles or drinking cups
  • Sun hat (bucket or legionnaire)
  • Formula or breast milk. Alternative milk i.e. cow’s milk is supplied by the centre, along with any weaner foods.
  • Disposable nappies (minimum 4 each day)
  • Nappy paste must be provided for all babies/children in nappies.
  • Change of clothing (labeled) including socks, enclosed shoes and jumper for cold days. Water proof jackets are provided by the centre (clearly labelled with your child’s name) ·
  • Comforters – dummy, teddy, blanket (clearly labelled)
  • Wet Bag (for wet or soiled accidents)
  • Families are kindly asked to donate a piece of fruit daily for Crunch & Sip.

Routines

We endeavour to follow your home routine where possible. However, sometimes this may need to be adapted for best practice. These routines will be discussed at your orientation session and placed into a personal profile for all educators to follow. The personal profile will be revised every 2 months to match your child’s developmental needs.

Baby bottles

All formula must be provided to the centre in a pre-measured sectioned container. The containers must be labelled with; the child’s name, name of formula, amount and use by date. Please make sure every bottle, cap and lid is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Staff will rinse used bottles and place them in your child’s bag at the end of each day. Please ask the educators on collection for any remaining unused bottles before leaving the centre, as these will be located in the fridge. If your child is on full cream milk, please ensure you have the correct amount of empty bottles for your child’s daily needs. We need a bottle provided for however many feeds they require whilst in our care. We rinse them and send them home for washing.

Nappies

Four disposable nappies are to be provided each day. Baby wipes are provided by the centre. All families must provide a nappy paste or cream that stays at the centre. This is so educators can treat rashes that may develop during the day. These must be given to the room leaders and a blue medication form signed.

Sleep time

Cots are available for Cuddly Caterpillar Babies and all cots comply with the Australian Standard (AS2172). Mattresses are used in the Blossoming Butterflies Nursery classroom. All sheets and blankets are provided by the centre and washed regularly in our centre laundry. The centre follows the Red Nose (SIDS & KIDS) safe sleeping routines and babies under 12 months will be placed on their backs, unless advised differently by a medical professional. Red nose (SIDS & KIDS) brochures are available in the foyer. Comforters that pose a safety risk to the child may be removed during sleeping sessions.

Communication - Early Works

Early Works is our online system which allows communication between educators and families. This should be referred to daily and can inform you of your child’s: sleep, meals, toileting and daily activities. Families are encouraged to use EarlyWorks to share information regarding your child’s health, routines, personal goals or family events. Please be advised that we are unable to constantly respond to messages, so if it’s urgent, then we advise you phone the centre directly on Ph: (08) 9593 8816.

Personal items

We discourages parents from bringing food, lollies and toys to the centre. To avoid the loss of personal items, which are brought into the centre, please make sure they are clearly labelled with your child’s name. Each classroom has its own lost property box for all unlabeled found items. All unclaimed class items will be moved to the foyer stand at the end of each month, then donated to St Vincent’s charity shop on the 20th of each month. .
